TEMS Wins Honors at National Collegiate EMS Conference
To All Supporters of Tulane Emergency Medical Services:
This past weekend at the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation's (NCEMSF) annual conference, Tulane EMS broke ground and set the stage for a new era of improvement and further commitment to excellence. After a year's worth of intensely scrutinizing our operations and the ways in which we benefit our community, our efforts were formally recognized. At the Saturday Awards Ceremony, Tulane EMS started the night off by being one of six services nationwide to be granted the Striving for Excellence award for our efforts in continuing quality assurance programs and innovations. I credit our Continuing Quality Improvement Committee for putting us in the position to win this award, and our Executive Board Members-At-Large for compiling the self-evaluation necessary to be considered.

In our excitement, we nearly missed the next honor to be granted to Tulane EMS. Of the 150+ services that comprise the NCEMSF, only one has the honor of being titled Outstanding Collegiate EMS Organization of the Year. This year Tulane EMS returned to New Orleans with that title. The Director of the NCEMSF cited our commitment to Tulane and Loyola Universities, the City of New Orleans, and our progress in redefining the capabilities of a Basic Life Support service as being notable in our field.

However, we recognize that Tulane EMS can not do what we do without your help. I want to thank you for supporting our organization. Tulane EMS has come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1981, and may we all recognize this past weekend as just the first step in the never-ending pursuit of perfection in regards to patient care, inter-departmental collaboration, and community integration.

With sincere appreciation,

Shaun Yockelson, NREMT-B
EMS Supervisor
