EMT Classes


EMT - Basic Class

Every semester Tulane EMS offers a state-certified course to prepare students to become Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

The curriculum for NREMT - Basic includes 124 hours of classroom time and 10 hours of in-ambulance clinical exposure. Upon completion of the curriculum student may go test before a board of the National Registry to become NREMTs.

The class meets two nights a week for the duration of the semester. Students are tested in both written and practical (skills) areas.

Students of EMT - Basic will cover such topics as trauma and medical assessment, oxygen therapy, administering drugs, defibrillation, the fundamentals of shock, and other issues specific to the job of EMT. The EMT - Basic course is open to anyone and is a valuable experience even if you never intend to work as an EMT.

The EMT - Basic course is ONLY open to Tulane students and applicable special course fees will be charged when registering and must be paid by all students registering for these courses. No course fee waivers are allowable and these courses are not subject to course swapping agreements with other institutions without payment of the special course fees. The course is a valuable experience even if you never intend to work as an EMT.
