TEMS Saves Tulane Thousands
Corey Maender

TEMS not only saves lives, but also $109,700 in emergency medical expenses. In January 1999, Tulane EMS began a mock billing system for the 1999 year utilizing billing sheets used by the New Orleans Health Department EMS. Had Tulane EMS not been in operation, NOHD would have likely responded to all campus medical emergencies and billed accordingly for services such as emergency transport, first aid, oxygen therapy, etc. While TEMS remains a completely free service to all Tulane students, faculty, and affiliates, the numbers tabulated from this report represent the amount saved from emergency situations. This billing summary most accurately exemplifies the return services, in dollar amount, that Tulane affiliates are receiving from Tulane EMS.
